In 1825, the first Rendezvous of Mountain Men Fur Trappers took place in Burnt Fork Wyoming.  Each succeeding year the new Rendezvous site would be elected by the attendees. Mountain men like Jim Bridger, Jedediah Smith, Joe Meek and Jeremiah Johnson would gather to trade their beaver pelts and stock up for a new season’s supplies. The Rendezvous were all held west of the Continental Divide and westward into the Oregon Territory.  The Rendezvous has a rich history in the American West. While selling furs and gathering supplies were the basic function of the Rendezvous, sharing knowledge, gathering of information, great company and shooting contests seemed to be standard fare of the event.

In 2001, not unlike the Mountain Man Rendezvous, a group of independent natured dentists organized and held the first Rendezvous Dental Meeting.  A site was located in the Oregon Territory in a lush valley capable of supporting

the requirements for the group. Baker City was chosen for the first eleven Rendezvous, with great support from Anthony Lakes Ski Resort and the historic Geiser Grand Hotel. Continuing education with world recognized speakers quickly became the standard, and in tribute to those original Mountain Men, excellent fellowship, superb meals, music (provided by PBR), mirth, some dancing, and shooting contests proliferated perhaps heightened by the unpacking of a little modern day medicine water as well. In a respectful tribute to those original Mountain Men, the new Rendezvous attendees also adopted clothing appropriate for the period. The Rendezvous is the one place where it’s a good idea to bring your capote and wear the fox hat!

The Rendezvous is a group of dentists, team members and dental companies dedicated to progressive dentistry with a focus on minimally invasive dentistry and the Kois System. Each year we bring internationally recognized speakers together for a three day event that combines world class CE, great networking and camaraderie, skiing, music, a unique Mountain Man Triathlon Shooting competition, and tremendous fun! The Rendezvous has a dedicated core following and welcomes like-minded people to the group. The Rendezvous is a unique and important voice keeping a critical conversation in the dental profession going. We are a non-profit group and use our net funds to support dental student based

research in dental caries, making a difference in oral health and expanding the careers of tomorrow’s dentists. We are a group of people who dream of possibilities and ask why not?

The Rendezvous now too has a rich and meaningful history in Oregon Territory, with a reputation of the most unique annual dental meeting ever held. Bring your fox hat and join us!
